13. Williams Ranch
Habitat: A large spring system provides water for the riparian corridor, and includes a perennial creek, 5 ponds, and a large meadow complex in a dry environment. Healthy riparian and aspen areas provide great viewing opportunities of diverse bird life in these plant communities. A series of old fire trails and sagebrush steppe restoration provide access for upland habitats associated with mountain mahogany, western juniper, sagebrush, and unique old growth juniper.
Birds: Pygmy Nuthatches, Pinyon Jays, Cassin's Finch, Bullock's Oriole
Directions: From Madeline, take Lassen Co Rd 527,W. for 3.75 mi; go W. thru yellow cattle guard and park. Walk the dirt road for 1 mi N.W. through riparian, and aspen habitats.
