17. Ash Creek State Wildlife Area
Habitat: Area includes 14,754 acres located in the heart of Big Valley. The 3,000 acres of natural wetlands are created by the seasonal flow of six streams. Ash Creek is one of the most remote, least improved, and most pristine of all of Department of Fish & Game's wildlife areas.
Birds: Greater Sandhill Cranes, Yellow-headed Blackbirds, American White Pelicans.
Directions: Take Hwy 299, 3 mi E. of Bieber to refuge headquarters. Area is adjacent to Ash Creek.
