9. Pepperdine Campground Map

Habitat: Porter Reservoir, northwest of the campground, provides open water and wetland cover (cattails, rushes). The matrix around Pepperdine Campground consists of old growth white fir. A series of aspen stands and meadow complexes provide excellent bird viewing opportunities. South along the Summit Trail into the South Warner Wilderness, you enter into a moonscape of open sage and mountain mahogany, a stark contrast to the old forest habitats.

Birds: Red-breasted Sapsuckers, Calliope Hummingbird, Western Tanagers

Directions: Travel 13.6 mi E. of Alturas on Co. Rd. 56 to the Modoc National Forest boundary, then another 6 mi on FS 42N31 (Parker Creek Rd), then 0.7 mi S. on the Pepperdine Access Rd.
